ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday inaugurated the Rashaki Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which will create at least 200,000 jobs and give a new impetus to Pakistan’s export-oriented industry. ۔

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Rashakai, one of the nine SEZs under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), would usher in a new era of industry in Pakistan.

SEZ is being built in Nowshera Province, Northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The zone is being built by China State Enterprise China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and KP Economic Zone Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) at a cost of 242 million.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government is taking all possible steps to encourage investors to promote industrialization and exports in the country. It will have a one-stop-shop operation to create an investor-friendly zone and remove barriers to facilitate local and foreign investors. He said that Rashakai SZ is an important project aimed at attracting foreign direct investment for sustainable economic growth, stabilizing industrialization, creating new jobs for skilled manpower, and exports. Addressing the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong said that Rashakai SEZ would initiate “industrial development in Pakistan”, create more jobs for the youth and accelerate economic growth. He said that it would also help in enhancing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Rashakai SZ has been given priority as a special economic park spread over an area of ​​about 1,000 acres near the provincial capital of Peshawar. Javed Khattak, CEO, KPEZDMC, said that under the CPEC framework, the zone would become an important trade hub for the region through the partnership of Pakistan and China.
